Do you know what the middle verse of the Old Testament is? It’s 2 Chronicles 20:172 Chronicles 20:17 English: King James Version (1611) - KJV 17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
This is a significant verse – and not just because it’s the middle point of the Old Testament. It’s significant because of what it says to those of us fighting a battle – and we all are. King Jehoshaphat and the Israelites were about to be attacked by three enemies: the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites. Imagine, three against one! This was a triple threat. Jehoshaphat had to be worried about how they could defend themselves in such a battle, but God knew what he was thinking. He said, “You will not have to fight in this battle.”
God is much better at fighting your battles
What God tells Jehoshaphat in this passage, and what he would remind us today, is this: “The battle is not yours; it’s mine. You don’t have to fight in it.” It’s God’s problem. Let Him solve it. The fact is, if you are God’s child, then your problems are His problems. And He’s much better at fighting your battles and solving your problems than you will ever be. Your job is to trust Him to work it all out. The reason why we have so many tired, fatigued, and discouraged Christians is they walk around with this Atlas complex – “I’m carrying the entire world on my shoulders! And it all depends on me.” The day you resign as General Manager of the Universe, you’re going to find that it doesn’t fall apart. You can relax in faith, trusting that God is able to run things without your help.
God doesn’t lose battles!
Twice in this passage it says, “Don’t be afraid,” and “Don’t be discouraged.” Has God ever lost a battle? No. He doesn’t lose battles. And because He’s never lost a battle, we should never be afraid. God has a reputation for winning. We are on the winning side. Regardless of the problems or difficulties or the barriers or the circumstances or the delays, ultimately, we are on the winning side. Oh yeah we may lose a few skirmishes here and there, but ultimately, we’re on the winning side. There’s an important phrase in verse 17. God tells Jehoshaphat, “Take up your positions and stand firm.” What does it mean to stand firm? It means to have a mental attitude of quiet confidence. It is never God’s will for you to run from a difficult situation. Instead trust Him. Now what am I to stand firm on while I’m waiting for God to fight my battles? You stand firm on two things:
The character of God. He’s faithful. He does not bring us this far just to leave us and let us down. Have faith in the nature and character of God.
The truth of His Word. God’s Word is faithful. You can count on the promises found in the Bible.
So beloved, stand still. Remember Who the battle belongs to. Trust that He is able to deliver you. And then watch Him do it!
Please pray for the couples fellowship of our church, the COVENANT KEEPERS, as they minister to our Sta. Catalina Outreach today.

CCD Bible Studies at Skycable Channel 15 8-9 am & 7-8 pm:
Last Sunday we indeed had an awesome time as a church celebrating our anniversary. I was in awe of what God has done in the past, that meditating on it during worship I found tears flowing down my cheeks. But I also know that we’re not to glory in the past and live there. We need to press on to know the Lord – press on to fulfill His purposes for us. The apostle Paul wrote, “ Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Phil.3:13-14)
WP-Bible plugin carries in the meaning of “strong exertion.” Every muscle of the runner is burning. He can see the ribbon. He has only a few more feet to go in the race. He must press on. It is the same in our lives as Christians. There are times when it just gets hard. But it is then that we learn what it means to walk by faith and not by feeling. You can’t live on an emotional high as a Christian. You must pace yourself in this race you are running. You can’t expect that every time you go to church, you will have some great emotional encounter with God. Sometimes you will. Sometimes you won’t. Growing up and learning to walk by faith are part of spiritual maturity.
When you first made a commitment to Christ, you discovered the joy and wonderful peace that comes from being forgiven. But you must realize that this is a walk by faith. You must press on even when it gets hard. Maybe, as you have been running, you have found yourself in a place where you are dragging burdens, sins, or other things along. Maybe you find that you don’t even know why you are running the race anymore. Maybe you have become discouraged.
Jesus gives us the strength to press on
Look up and remember that it is Jesus whom you are running for. Two thousand years ago, He loved you so much that He went to the cross and died there. He shed His blood for you. Then He rose again from the dead. Because He did that for you, you can live for Him today. He will give you the strength to press on…until we see Him face to face!

CCD Missions Committee – The Movement
Vision
Our vision is to be a missions-oriented church, sending out individuals and teams helping to fulfill the Great Commission.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Mission Committee is to promote missions in Calvary Chapel Dumaguete with the goal to become a sending and supporting church for missionaries primarily coming out of our own congregation and eventually those from other Christian organizations or churches. Our main focus is to spread the Gospel and to make disciples of Jesus-Christ(). We desire to support already existing missionary works and also target to reach out to those who have not yet heard the Gospel. All this in order to expand the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus-Christ on earth. (through prayer support, evangelistic activities, biblical teaching, education, medical help, practical and technical support, financial support and others).

To culminate our November Anniversary Celebration, we are going to have a NIGHT OF PSALMS on Nov. 30 at 5:30 pm. The Theme is “Healing Grace. Note: No Visayan Service on this day.
Launching of our NEW CHURCH WEBSITE, please visit: http://alabasterjar.freehostia.com/wordpress
Start praying for our DIPOLOG CONCERT in February 2009—for the Lord’s provision, direction and harvest!
“The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” (Deut 2:7Deut 2:7 English: King James Version (1611) - KJV 7 For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
WP-Bible plugin). Moses said these words to the second generation Israelites as he exhorted them to continue on their way to the Promised land. How fitting these words are to us today. If I can borrow the words with a slight change: The LORD our God has blessed us in all the work of our hands. He has watched over our journey through this needed city of Dumaguete. These 23 years the LORD our God has been with us, and we have not lacked anything! Amen? Amen!
Faithful until the End
Another one: “There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place!” (Deut. 1:31Deut. 1:31 English: King James Version (1611) - KJV 31 And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
WP-Bible plugin). What a testimony of God’s faithfulness! Sometimes it’s good to remember where we have been and how we were before, so that we can truly appreciate what God has done in the light of where we are now! God indeed has brought us this far as a church. And this is the assurance: If He was faithful in the past He will be faithful today and tomorrow. God’s past faithfulness assures us that He will be faithful to the end. And in that we can rely. Acknowledging His faithfulness in our lives makes us faithful to Him too. And that is what He requires of us – faithfulness until the end of our day or until that Day!
Rise Up and Be Counted!
The work is not yet done. The harvest is still great and ripe for harvest, multitudes are still in the valley of decision, so many are still on their way to destruction, looking for true hope and meaning in life. That’s why we’re here. This is where we come in. Beloved, let’s continue working together fixing our eyes on Jesus, not on one another; with one vision, one heart, one goal let us move forward to fulfill our calling in the power of the Holy Spirit. Rise up and be counted. Fight the good fight. Run the race. Keep the faith. And let’s do it together in the power of God’s Holy Spirit!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ALL! THANK YOU BELOVED CHURCH! TO KING JESUS BE ALL THE GLORY, POWER AND PRAISE!
WP-Bible plugin) – What a peaceful picture! David says, because the Lord is My Shepherd, “I shall not be in want” or “ I do not lack anything. Now, when someone says, “I shall not be in want,” we need to sit up and take notice because this is an age of discontent. As somebody once said: “I was a child. But it was adulthood I wanted – The freedom, & the respect. I was 20. But it was 30 I wanted – To be mature, & sophisticated. I was middle-aged. But it was 20 I wanted – The youth, & the free spirit. I was retired. But it was middle-age I wanted – The presence of mind, without limitations. Then my life was over, & I never got what I wanted.”
The half empty cup
Many people never seem satisfied, & almost everybody wants more. We live in a generation of the half-empty cup, and the content that fills the half cup is fear: Fear that we don’t have enough, fear that we are not valuable, fear of today and fear of tomorrow. Consider this: there are really only two options in life — If the Lord is my shepherd, then I shall not be in want; but if I am in want, then it is obvious that the Lord is not my shepherd. It is that simple. If there is emptiness and loneliness and despair and frustration in our lives, then the Lord is not our shepherd. Or, if anyone or anything else is shepherding us, we are never satisfied. If our vocation shepherds us, then there is restlessness and unsatisfying activity and frustration. If education is our shepherd, then we are constantly being disillusioned. If another person is our shepherd, we are always disappointed and ultimately we are left empty. But if the Lord is our shepherd, David says, we shall not be in want!
The Lord is my shepherd!
You see, the only reason that David could say, “I shall not want,” is because David could first say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” It’s only when we have this relationship with God, when we call Him OUR shepherd, or MY shepherd, that we are truly satisfied and contented – and then we can say, “And I shall lack nothing!” Beloved, let Him be your shepherd today!

Living in a world of ever increasing change
You see, we live in a world of ever increasing change. The population has increased from one billion in 1850 to 2 billion in 1930 to 3 billion in 1960 to 5 billion in 1989 to 6 billion at the end of the twentieth century. The speed at which we can move people and things has grown as well. In 1800 a horse could gallop at 20 mph. Not much later with the advent of the train we could ride at 100 mph. In 1952 the first passenger jet soared at 500 mph. The Concorde jet, introduced in 1979, topped that speed cruising at 1,200 mph. Now astronauts orbit the earth at 16,000 mph. Technology advances 100% every two years now. This is especially evident with the computer.
We can always count on Him
Change is a fact of life, yet we are creatures who need stability. We want institutions we can count on. We desire relationships of commitment. We need constants just to make sense out of the world. And God is THE Immutable One we can depend on. In a life of unceasing change God is utterly consistent. As such, God is the most reliable being in the universe. We can always count on Him. Regardless of how temporary and insecure the circumstances seem, we can rely and put our hope in the Eternal God whose truth and promises do not change with the times.
Trust in Him today!
Even if hard times, unexpected times, horrible times, confusing times come to our life God is our safety and refuge. It is a wise man who stays in the shelter and care of the Lord regardless of the situations in life! If you have left the safety of His presence…today if you will turn to God He will be a safe place for you during the hard times of life. Trust in Him today!
Today is COMMUNION SUNDAY. Let us come to the table with a thanksgiving heart as we remember the greatest love of all!
Please pray for our CHURCH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION this November as we gather together as one big family.
We worship and faithful God! Let us not hesitate to cast all our burdens upon Him. Join us every Tuesday at 5:30 pm, CCD for our INTERCESSORY PRAYER MEETING.
