stars in the universe, and he’ll believe you. But if that same man sees a sign reading “Wet Paint,” he feels he has to stop and make a personal investigation! That’s been our dilemma from the beginning of creation. God gave Adam and Eve so many wonderful gifts to enjoy.

The environment in Eden was utopia. God gave the first couple free reign: “Yes, by all means enjoy the fruit I’ve given you. Yes, have fun in the rivers I’ve put here! Yes, take pleasure in each other and the animals you get to name!” God gave only one “No!” command—sort of like a “Wet Paint” sign. This one read: “Danger: Lethal Tree. Keep Out!” God clearly said, “You may freely eat any fruit in the garden except fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. But our first parents failed to heed the warning and decided to make a personal investigation.

When they failed to follow the warning, everything changed. It was the darkest day in human history. On that day, the entire human race went from innocence to sinfulness. Paul framed it this way, “When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned” (Romans 5:12Romans 5:12

Have you failed to follow God’s warning signs? Do you now stand with your eyes opened to some sin in your life? Maybe you too feel ashamed that God’s image in you has been marred. Adam’s indiscretion meant Paradise Lost! But Jesus, the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:451 Corinthians 15:45

), brought the hope of Paradise Regained by His death on the cross. When you confess that sin, God uses Jesus’ loving act on the cross to cover your sinful act.

The Bible uses a wonderful, old-sounding term: “repent.” It simply means that you turn around and make a change. It begins in your heart and shows up in your life. Today, won’t you ask God for forgiveness for failing to follow His warning signs? He’ll help you find the paradise of making peace with Him.
