Go to God in Prayer
Jul 1st, 2009 | By ccdgte | Category: Prayer is PowerfulWhen a child goes to his father for something, the way he asks is based on his father’s nature and temperament. If the father has a bad temper, the child will probably approach him cautiously and ask for little. If the father is good-natured, the child will confidently ask for plenty. Do you come to your heavenly Father fearfully or faithfully?
I believe the way we approach God is directly related to our view of Him. If we see God as a vengeful being waiting to pour out His wrath on us, we will come to Him as a child to a father with a bad temper. If we believe that God is kind and loving, we will come to Him with great confidence as Scripture instructs: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16Hebrews 4:16
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Maybe you aren’t fearful of coming to God in prayer, you’re forgetful. I’ve discovered that many times we simply forget about the resources of heaven that are at our fingertips. We rarely forget to eat, or sleep but do we overlook prayer. Jesus urges us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8Matthew 7:7-8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Too often we view prayer as a fire hose surrounded by glass and inscribed with the message: “For emergency use only.” But God doesn’t want us to run to Him only in case of an emergency. He wants us to come to a place of continual dependence on Him. Like a wonderful Father, He is patiently waiting for us to recognize our need for Him and seek Him out in prayer. Our loving heavenly Father wants us to realize that we need Him every day and every moment, not just in moments of crisis.
So let me ask, how often do you run to God just to tell Him how wonderful you think He is? He longs to hear your praise as well as your problems. Set aside a moment today for prayer and worship, thanking Him for being who He is and what He has doneā¦for you and for me.
